My parents & teachers had this equation stucked in my head for the past 17 years of my life:
Tattoo = Form of rebellion + Unprofessional + Low class + gangster
However..
Throughout these years, I somehow changed my perception of tattoos.
It depends you know ,
of course..don't overdo it by covering your body with weird tatts that symbolises nothing:/
eg.
err..something like these..
PLEASE DON'T GET.
This is just sooo wth lah..only ah beng,ah tiong,ah lian mois will get this kind.
hahaha..
but this is kinda cool tho :)
but u still wouldnt wanna have joker's face on your arms/ legs..coz that would be creepy :S
ok leave that aside.
& lets take a different perspective this time.
For now..
I actually see it as a form of art. Tattoos gives u a great insight to someone's personality because it's their way of expressing themselves.
Besides, they're like permanent reminder for yourself ya know..
One of the most influential person in my life has the word "Delivered" tattoed on his arm. That word itself is actually inspired by a song "I've been Delivered" by The Wallflowers thats about having the urge to break out and chase your dreams. Something about not giving up/coming home until delivered.
These types are acceptable to me:
1) A word that means a lot to you & you would like to be reminded of it everyday.
this one is actually quite cool! Its an ambigram tattoo.
"Faith"
The word reads the same when it's upside down.
Something like the words "Fire", "Air", "Earth" & "Water" from "Angels & Demons"!
2) A tattoo to remind you of your God / religion to keep you on the right track in life.
OKAY ..but not Overdo it like this fella of course.
A much smaller scale of that would be fine & resonable.
3) A tattoo of your favourite music band.
This is only of course, neccessary for fanatic fans..who feels that a particular band's music speaks to them/
have changed their lives :)
4) A quote that means a lot to you / you've been living your life with.
Tattoos aren't all that bad. Lets all open up our minds & see it in a different perspective! Shall we? :)
In the end of the day, people who ink themselves with tatts doesn't automatically make them a complete different person. We cant just brand them all as gangsters.
but to be on the safe side,
if u reaaaaaallllyyy want one, get one thats not visible when you're working because you wouldn't wanna risk yourself judged by others as being unprofessional & lack of class.
After all, 1st impression always counts no matter what.
cheers :)
